Jujutsu
Jujutsu is a Japanese martial art with roots in the unarmed techniques used by the samurai on the battlefield. The name comes from the Japanese words “ju” (soft, yielding) and “jutsu” (technique) – the principle is to use the opponent’s force, balance and movement rather than meeting strength with strength. In its modern form, jujutsu is practised both as effective self-defence, as traditional budo and as a competitive sport, with elements of strikes, kicks, throws, holds, joint locks and sometimes groundwork.
