Power bands – resistance, assistance and safe use

Power bands are long closed-loop resistance bands for strength training, warm-ups and assisted exercises. Short mini bands have different dimensions and are often used around the legs or arms.

How do I choose resistance?

Choose a band that allows controlled movement. Lighter bands can suit warm-ups and smaller muscle groups; stronger bands can add load to strength exercises. Resistance rises as the band stretches.

Colours and labels such as Light or Strong are not standardised. A force quoted in kilograms is not equivalent to a constant dumbbell weight: it may describe a specific stretch or maximum pulling force. Read the exact model's specifications.

How do assisted pull-ups work?

A stronger band gives more assistance and makes the bodyweight exercise easier. Assistance changes through the movement. As you get stronger, you can progress to a lighter band. Check the anchor and use a stable setup when stepping into or out of the band.

Safety and care

Inspect the band before every session. Do not use bands with cracks, tears or surface damage. Protect against sharp edges and use an anchor intended for the load. Do not release a stretched band towards your face or body, and do not exceed the manufacturer's stretch limit.

Store clean and dry, away from sunlight and heat. Many bands contain latex; check the material if you have an allergy.

Do I need several bands?

Different resistance levels can help with different exercises. There is no universal service life or guarantee of faster training results; use and progression determine the outcome.
